Sikkim is a vital corridor for tigers in the Eastern Himalayas and the Global Tiger Forum (GTF) has been implementing the "Integrated Tiger Habitat Conservation Programme“, under a joint initiative between the Sikkim Forest and Environment Department, supported by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and funded by German Cooperation via KfW Development Bank.
Such conservation efforts are critical for maintaining the genetic diversity of the species and ensure its long-term survival. Therefore, greater awareness, support and local participation for tiger conservation is essential to help ensure these magnificent animals are not lost forever.
Conservation efforts can be greatly enhanced when they are inclusive and community led. Accordingly, a special initiative named TakZo has been conceptualised by GTF, in partnership with Centre for Strategy and Leadership.
This initiative aims to integrate tiger conservation with sustainable livelihoods for forest-dependent communities of Sikkim. The name TakZo is derived from the Lepcha (Rong) language and means Tiger"s Roar.
We seek the support from government and private organisations by encouraging them to take part in this novel initiative aimed at promoting tiger conservation and improving the livelihood of local Sikkimese people.
Under this initiative, an exquisite tiger-themed gift box has been curated to appreciate the Tiger"s Majesty and celebrate Sikkim"s ecological splendour.
It is designed to meet the gifting requirements of government institutions, PSUs, corporates, international agencies and other large organisations.
Each box features a bespoke collection which showcases the remarkable craftsmanship of bamboo alongside the revered black cardamom, both exclusively sourced from the picturesque Himalayan state.
An informational booklet and inlay card are included which contains information about the project and its objectives as well as details about the included products.
This box makes for an elegant and meaningful gift while also demonstrating one"s commitment towards tiger conservation and support for the livelihoods of local artisans and farmers.
Organically cultivated and sustainably harvested in Sikkim is the versatile bamboo. Integral to the daily lives of Sikkim"s people, bamboo is so versatile that this wonder of nature is affectionately called ‘Green Gold’. This product demonstrates Sikkim"s dedication towards sustainable management of its abundant natural wealth.
